Picos ushersin tamale season Picos, 3601 Kirby, now has a drive-up tamale stand, open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Jan. 6 (excluding Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). Customers can call 281-687-0410 to pre-order. This year there are six new tamales in chef Arnaldo Richards' repertoire: wild mushroom and huitlacoche; pork belly chiccarónes (one with red sauce, one with green); strawberry; and two kinds of dulce de leche (one has chopped pecans and butter). As in previous years, the lineup is divided into two styles: tamales Oaxaquenos (wrapped in banana leaves), priced at $36 a dozen or $18 a half dozen, including pork in red chile, chicken in green chile, Portobello mushroom, and chicken in black mole.
